Ozwest provides accredited Road Pilots (authorised persons) to the general and heavy haulage transport industry. When oversize loads need moving, the company can obtain all the permits (Western Power and Main Roads WA) and police escorts as required, and can then co-ordinate the elements needed to ensure safe transport of oversize loads.
Ozwest’s consultation process includes logistics calculations, and advise on most appropriate legal route for moving oversize loads and guidance on other oversize, transport matters. For example, Ozwest can advise on what size load (wide, long, heavy or overheight) may move on a particular route or bridge and how many Road Pilots are required to escort such loads.
The company has an office in Toodyay, WA, and most of its Road Pilots are based around the Perth area, although Ozwest also has Pilots in most large country areas of WA, and arrangements with other Pilots and agencies in all other Australian States.
A particularly memorable achievement for Ozwest was managing the entire logistics to successfully transport the giant Boab Tree from Telegraph Creek, Northern Western Australia, to Perth’s Kings Park. Ozwest arranged permits, Police escorts and Road Pilots at no cost, and even persuaded most other parties to donate their time and services also.
